FTOPS Event #17: $200 buy-in Cashout No Limit Hold’em
JC “PrtyPSux” Alvarado came into the final table of the Cashout event with the chiplead and came out with a gold jersey. In between, he picked up $24,508.76 from the cashout prize pool, plus another $36,000 for finishing in 1st place, brining his earnings on the day to $60,508.76. Alvarado is used to doing well online during the springtime. This time last year, he won the inaugural Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) Medium buy-in Main Event. Now Alvarado has a gold jersey as well.
Like the 7 Game event the Cashout tournament has a small overlay of $1,800 on its $150,000 guarantee. The field consisted of 1,491 runners, 72 of which made it into the money. Just because a player did not make it in the money does not necessarily mean they walked away empty-handed though. As is the case with Cashout events, players were able to redeem their chips for cash throughout the tournament. Just over $20,000 of the nearly $150,00 Cashout prizepool was redeemed prior to the final table. There was still plenty of Cashout money once the final nine was set though, as all of the players received cashout payments greater than the 8th place prize of $3,600.
Alvarado defeated Kyle “Marinersheep” Huffman after a lengthy heads-up bout. The rest of the final table results (including Cashout payments) are as follows:

FTOPS Event #18: $300 buy-in 6-handed No Limit Hold’em w/ rebuys
Shannon “BLUFFforRENT” Shorr is just days away from completing his degree at the University of Alabama and last night he sent out a little request for a graduation present during the late stages of the $300 rebuy FTOPS event:
@ShannonShorr: 4th in chips with 45 left in FTOPS $300 rebuy. All I want for graduation is the FTOPS jersey and $213,500 first prize
Shorr got his wish. Not only did he win the event, he did so outright, meaning the entirety of the $213,500 first place prize ended up in his account. Whil Shorr will be donning a cap and gown in just a couple of days, he will soon be sporting his gold jersey avatar, a feat that likely ranks nearly as high in the longtime poker pro’s book.
Shorr was not the only big name who went deep in the popular FTOPS event, which drew 877 runners and came up $95,200 short of its $1 million guarantee. The top 27 was a veritable who’s who of top poker pros, including Joe “bigegypt” Elpayaa (7th), past FTOPS Player of the Series winner “UnoffensiveNick”, Bryan “Bry23” Barille (18th), Chau “La Key U” Giang (20th), Justin “WPThero” Rollo (21st), Va Sho “Julian Verse” Watkins (24th), Frank “Round42” Rusnak (25th), Brandon “AreTheseUtz” Hall (26th) and Steve “gboro780” Gross (27th).
Here’s all the action from Event #18’s final table:
Seat 1: midocean3 (25,720)
Seat 2: Nick “FU_15” Maimone (1,351,672)
Seat 3: dsindy (656,266)
Seat 4: Shannon “BLUFFforRENT” Shorr (766,727)
Seat 5: A_theKevlar_2 (1,433,956)
Seat 6: wallstreetpro (368,659)
It took only nine hands at the final table before a player hit the rail. Blinds were up to 6,000/12,000 ante 1,500 when Nick “FU_15” Maimone opened for a raise to almost 26,000 in middle position and wallstreetpro moved all-in for 294,000. Maimone called with AQ, which was racing against wallstreetpro’s 66. The 984 flop favored wallstreetpro, but the 2 on the turn brought a flush draw for FU_15. The river J made FU_15’s flush and knocked out wallstreetpro in 6th place.
That hand gave Maimone the chip lead, but a big clash with Shannon “BLUFFforRENT” Shorr saw the tables turn for FU_15. Blinds were up to 8,000/16,000 ante 2,000 when FU_15 raised on the button and BLUFFforRENT called out of the big blind. The flop fell A32 and BLUFFforRENT bet out 51,000. FU_15 raised to 122,000 and BLUFFforRENT made it almost 400,000 to go. FU_15 moved all-in, having BLUFFforRENT’s remaining half a million covered. BLUFFforRENT called with 33 for middle set, while FU_15 showed AK for top pair and the nut flush draw. The turn and river bricked out for FU_15 and BLUFFforRENT doubled up to nearly 2 million.
BLUFFforRENT added to his stack just a few hands later by dispatching midocean in a big pot. FU_15 opened for a raise, BLUFFforRENT reraised on the button and midocean3 moved all-in for 166,000 from the big blind. FU_15 then made it 264,000 to go, but BLUFFforRENT was able to push him out of the pot by reraising again, making it 1.3 million. BLUFFforRENT showed pocket jacks, midocean showed KQ and, though the flop came queen high, a jack on the river sent the pot to BLUFFforRENT and eliminated midocean3 in 5th place.
After that hand, Shorr reminded the table that he was in a bit of a hurry and was eager to get this final table business wrapped up shortly:
BLUFFforRENT: I mentioned I have class in 2 hours, right?
That hand gave BLUFFforRENT more chips than the combined stacks of the remaining three players and his stack only grew bigger when he knocked out A_theKevlar_2 in 4th place. FU_15 was getting precariously short on chips, dipping down to 300,000, but he battled his way back over 600,000 and doubled up when his AQ prevailed over dsindy’s AJ.
After that, dsindy was down to 400,000 and his stack dwindled even lower from there. Dsindy found a double up holding A3 to FU_15’s KJ, but hit the rail shortly thereafter when the following hand went down:
Blinds were at 10,000/20,000 ante 2,500 when dsindy raised from the button and both players called out of the blinds. The flop brought774 and action checked to dsindy, who bet 72,000. BLUFFforRENT got out of the way, but FU_15 pumped it up with a check-raise to 154,200. Dsindy called and the two saw the turn come J. FU_15 checked, dsindy bet 440,000, leaving just 27,000 behind and FU_15 raised enough to put dsindy all-in. Dsindy called with 89 for a gutterball, while FU_15 held 79 for trips. The river 5 gave the 1.4 million chip pot to FU_15 and sent dsindy to the rail in 3rd.
Heads-up play lasted twenty hands before a cooler of a hand brought the event to a close.BLUFFforRENT was sitting with nearly 2.9 million to FU_15’s nearly 2 million. BLUFFforRENT raised on the button, FU_15 called and the duo saw a flop of 553. FU_15 bet out and the two raised back and forth several times before FU_15 called, bringing the 6 on the turn. FU_15 led out again and BLUFFforRENT moved all-in. FU_15 called with 58 for trips, but BLUFFforRENT’s K5 had him outkicked. The river K filled BLUFFforRENT up to give him the pot, the jersey and the graduation gift he’d been asking for.
1st: Shannon “BLUFFforRENT” Shorr ($213,500)
2nd: Nick “FU_15” Maimone ($140,000)
3rd: dsindy ($100,000)
4th: A_theKevlar_2 ($76,000)
5th: midocean3 ($54,000)
6th: wallstreetpro ($34,500)
